Intimate Home Fertilisation
This project is a speculative design centred around IVF treatment. My project partner and I did some research about IVF and discovered that the IVF process is not nearly as intimate as making a baby the "natural" way. Sex and the creation of a new life is a really sensual and intimate thing to do and sitting in a cold, sterile chair in a hospital does not match that energy.
So we went to work, trying to figure out what could make this process more enjoyable. And we soon realised that fixing the whole process from beginning till the end was a bit too much. So we focused on what we think is the most important, the impregnation.
We created a speculative design which could help couples (straight, gay or everything in between) but also single mothers. If a woman decided to become pregnant on her own, this could make it more personal and pleasurable for them.
This is the IHF device. It works similar to a dildo; you insert it and with the remote you can control it, even the "shooting'. With shooting we mean inserting the baby at the desired moment.
In the glass container at the right end of the device, one or two a fertilised eggs will be stored. Once the "shoot" button on the remote is hit (the button with the arrow going up) the eggs will move through the device up into the womb of the person that is trying to become pregnant.
Both the dildo and the remote are covered with a layer of silicone. The texture looks a bit course here but I will have to ask you to use your imagination a little bit and see it as a smooth surface.
